Commis I for the pantry section, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of cold dishes, salads, appetizers, and sometimes desserts. Your duties may include:
- **Food Preparation**: You'll assist in preparing ingredients for salads, dressings, cold appetizers, and desserts. This might involve washing, chopping, and measuring ingredients accurately.
- **Assembly of Dishes**: You'll assemble cold dishes and salads according to the recipes and standards set by the head chef or sous chef. Presentation is key, so attention to detail is important.
- **Stock Management**: Keeping track of inventory levels for pantry items such as fresh produce, dairy, and condiments. Informing senior staff when supplies are running low.
- **Maintaining Cleanliness**: Ensuring that your workstation and the pantry area are clean and organized at all times. This includes regular cleaning of equipment and storage areas.
- **Following Recipes**: Following recipes accurately to maintain consistency in taste and presentation. You may also be required to suggest improvements to recipes or presentation techniques.
- **Assisting Other Sections**: During busy periods, you may be asked to help out in other sections of the kitchen. Flexibility and teamwork are essential.
- **Adhering to Safety Standards**: Following all health and safety regulations to ensure the food preparation area remains clean and hygienic. This includes proper food handling and storage procedures.
- **Learning and Development**: Continuously improving your culinary skills and knowledge by seeking feedback from senior staff, attending training sessions, and experimenting with new ingredients and techniques.
- **Communication**: Communicating effectively with other members of the kitchen team to ensure smooth workflow and timely service.
- **Customer Interaction**: Depending on the setup of the restaurant or kitchen, you may occasionally interact with customers, taking special requests or explaining menu items.
