In this role, you have the opportunity to

Be an integral part of the payments platform team. The team focuses on building:

1. Payments platform : this includes building the Payment Gateway for BharatPe along with offline payments

2. Reconciliation platform : this includes parsing of multiple resources, managing large and complex transactions, accelerating dispute resolution, and creating an enterprise level recon product

You will work closely with the Business Head of Payments and Operations teams at BharatPe; and externally with Banks, Service Providers, Regulators and NPCI.

BharatPe has a huge active merchants base using our various services like QR, POS, BharatPe Speaker, and more. The entire payments business is a high volume business and is highly regulated. For us to build a long term sustainable business, it is important that we have high quality merchants.

This role will involve active work on following aspects:

● Defining the Product Strategy and Vision. defining and articulating a compelling product vision and strategy for Payments and Risk Management platforms that aligns with BharatPe’s overall mission.

● Product Development and Timely Execution: while balancing quality, scope, and time constraints.

● Innovation and Continuous Improvement: facilitate experimentation, creative problem-solving, and innovative thinking to drive excellence in Payments.

● Merchant Experience: identifying the pain points of merchants and solving them ruthlessly to deliver quality service to our merchants .

You will report to the Lead of Payments Platform and will be working closely with every department to ensure our platforms not only fulfills customer needs but also drives our business growth in a sustainable way.

Responsibilities will include

Functional Expertise

1. Understanding of Payments and Platforms

a. Deep knowledge of the payments ecosystem, particularly Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Cards, its

functionality, and operations

b. Experience in managing platforms, understanding their unique aspects compared to standard products

c. Familiarity with platform-specific metrics. Previous experience in handling platforms will be a big plus.

2. Ecosystem Knowledge

a. In-depth understanding of regulatory guidelines affecting merchant and payments businesses, covering both offline and online payments.

b. Awareness of industry best practices for payments, reconciliation, and financial systems.

c. Stay updated with the latest advancements in payment technologies and methodologies.

3. Reconciliation Platform

a. Ability to build an enterprise-level reconciliation product that supports scalable and flexible operations.

b. Ability to design automated workflows to streamline reconciliation tasks and reduce manual intervention.

4. Design and Execution Skills

a. Capability to develop workflows, UI wireframes, and adhere to strong design principles.

b. Skill in defining and executing a strategy and roadmap for the payments platform, aligned with regulatory guidelines and company objectives.

c. Execute the roadmap with internal stakeholders (like engineering ,business, risk, compliance etc.) and external stakeholders (like service providers, regulator and partners - banks or other partners)

d. Has exceptional written and verbal skills

e. Is extremely data driven , and hands-on with tools (ex. metabase) and language (ex. SQL)

Problem Solving

1. Able to synthesize a range of inputs from different functions and take a balanced approach to problem solving.

2. Extremely good at Root cause Analysis with focus on identifying the problem at the right time, and solving it or

getting it solved within the shortest possible time.

3. Conduct research in domestic space and international space to identify how different players have solved or are

trying to solve similar problems. This will help us identify areas of improvement

4. Identifies and solves problems at the functional level while influencing beyond own area of control

5. Be assertive with the roadmap creation. Have strong conviction on the roadmap, and try and get it First Time Right

in execution

6. Able to define and track key performance metrics for product success and merchant experience.

7. Implement A/B testing and other methodologies to validate product enhancements.

Interaction:

1. Stakeholder Interaction

a. Acting as the primary contact for all product-related inquiries and issues.

b. Managing relationships with internal stakeholders (like business, risk, compliance, operations etc.) independently, with minimal support.

c. Building strong connections with external stakeholders like banks, vendors, NPCI, and RBI.

d. Escalating and presenting activities to senior management with some support.

2. Collaboration and Empathy

a. Has ability to drive consensus and if not get folks to disagree & commit; Awareness and detailed

understanding of overall business and industry context.

b. Confirmed ability to work cross functionally to drive the implementation of new features.

c. Builds exceptional relationships with PMs & Engg counterparts of all businesses; Without high level of empathy, it's impossible to build great products which are adopted across the org.

To succeed in the role

● Develop and execute strategy for a product & manage mid/high complexity product

independently with limited manager support

Qualification & Experience (type & industry)

● BE/B.Tech or equivalent Degree. MBA is good to have

● 3-5 Yrs of experience

● At least 2 years of experience in product management at a fintech

● Past experience of working in Online Payments is must

Skills & know-how

● Excellent organization skills, ability to lead multiple projects and handle contending priorities,

prioritize workload effectively, and thrive in a dynamic and complex environment

● Experience of working on a Payments or Recon charter at a fintech / payments company. Past

success delivering high quality products in a complex environment

● Deep understanding of financial systems, and payment platforms is preferred
