Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Agriculture Insurance Underwriting Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and underwriting agriculture insurance policies. This role involves risk assessment, data analysis, and the development of insurance solutions tailored to agricultural needs, including crops, livestock, and farm infrastructure. You will work closely with actuaries, risk managers, and field agents to deliver customized insurance solutions that align with the specific risks of the agriculture industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting Assessment:
Evaluate and assess risks associated with agriculture-related insurance applications, including crops, livestock, machinery, and farm infrastructure.
Risk Evaluation:
Conduct in-depth analysis of agricultural risks using historical data, climate forecasts, farm management practices, and geographic factors.
Policy Development:
Design and recommend appropriate coverage levels and policy terms based on risk assessments and market conditions.
Loss Mitigation:
Collaborate with loss control teams to suggest risk management strategies to mitigate potential losses.
Data Analysis:
Utilize various analytical tools and techniques to assess risk, including geographic information systems (GIS), historical weather data, and crop yield reports.
Client Consultation:
Work closely with clients, agents, and brokers to explain underwriting decisions and help them understand the policy coverage.
Compliance:
Ensure that all underwriting practices meet regulatory guidelines and company policies, adhering to local, regional, and national agricultural insurance regulations.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with actuaries to develop pricing models for agriculture insurance products and work with claims teams to assess and manage loss events.
Reporting:
Prepare detailed reports on underwriting activities, including risk assessments, policy performance, and market trends.

Key Qualifications:

Strong understanding of agriculture production, climate risks, and farm operations.
Knowledge of agricultural insurance products, including crop, livestock, and farm insurance.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex risks.
Familiarity with underwriting software and tools, including risk modelling and GIS systems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain underwriting decisions to non-experts.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including actuaries, claims adjusters, and field agents.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional certification in insurance underwriting (e.g., CPCU, ARM).
Experience with agriculture insurance policies specific to regional crop and livestock markets.
Knowledge of climate change impacts on agriculture and familiarity with sustainable farming practices.
