Position: Manager – Documentation and Communication (One Post)
Project Location: Kolkata and Sundarban, West Bengal
Contract Period: Initially 1 year (Extendable based on performance) Salary: ₹50,000 - ₹55,000 per month (Depending on qualifications and experience)
About Us: Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) is a Kolkata-based non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the conservation of wildlife, ecology, natural resources, and sustainable livelihoods. With over three decades of commitment, NEWS is known for driving impactful projects and initiatives that protect biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and foster community resilience.
At NEWS, we integrate scientific research, policy advocacy, and community engagement to create innovative and sustainable solutions for preserving ecosystems. Qualifications:
• M.Sc. in Life Sciences or Environmental Science, or a Master’s degree in any science discipline / Postgraduate degree in Journalism or Mass Communication with a science background.
• 8 to 10 years of experience in communication management, specifically in biodiversity and climate change projects within the NGO sector.
• Strong skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and design tools like Photoshop, Canva, etc.
• Excellent editorial skills (editing and writing) in both English and Bengali are mandatory.
• Proficiency in MS Office and other data analysis tools.
• Proven expertise in developing comprehensive internal and external communication plans, along with targeted media outreach strategies.
• Experience in creating engaging social media content and optimizing websites for search engines (SEO) to enhance user experience.
Scope of Work:
1. Communication Strategy Development:
o Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies, including targeted media outreach plans.
2. Content Creation and Management:
o Prepare and execute communication tools and strategies for biodiversity and climate change projects.
o Regularly create and share impactful content on social media platforms to enhance the organization’s visibility.
o Optimize the organization’s website for SEO and ensure an engaging user experience.
3. Documentation and Reporting:
o Prepare press releases, website updates, and other communication materials.
o Document communication materials and knowledge products for project promotion.
o Collaborate with the project team to strengthen result-based reporting and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E).
o Assist in the preparation of progress reports, concept notes, and other required documents.
4. Event Support:
o Produce detailed reports from workshops, training sessions, and other events organized by the project.
o Support the team in organizing and managing field activities, seminars, workshops, and training sessions.
5. Team Collaboration:
o Perform additional duties as assigned by the Project Manager and Organization. Skills Required:
• Exceptional communication, social, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Bengali.
• Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and deliver tasks within deadlines.
• Confidence in interacting with government officials, academic institutions, and national/international NGOs.
• In-depth knowledge of national and global frameworks/guidelines on Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Wetland Management.
• Leadership qualities with the ability to inclusively manage a project team.
Personal Traits:
• Proactive and capable of handling uncertainties.
• Ready to embrace new challenges and contribute to societal well-being.
• Collaborative approach when working with diverse stakeholders. Benefits:
• Salary: ₹50,000 - ₹55,000 per month (Based on qualifications and experience).
• Provident Fund (PF): Applicable after completing the training and probationary period.
• Medical Insurance (Mediclaim): Eligibility begins after completing one year with the organization.
