We are looking for an experienced GitHub Migration Specialist to lead and execute the migration of our source control system from Perforce to GitHub. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in migrating repositories, workflows, and integrations from various version control systems (e.g., Perforce, Bitbucket, GitLab, SVN, or TFS) to GitHub. This role involves collaborating closely with development, DevOps, and project management teams to ensure a seamless transition while maintaining code integrity, security, and workflow continuity. The specialist should also possess strong automation skills to build the necessary tools for an efficient migration process.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and implement the migration of repositories, branches, and histories from Perforce to GitHub.
Analyze repositories to ensure no data or history is lost during migration.
Configure GitHub repositories, including branch protection rules, permissions, and access control.
Develop automation tools and scripts to streamline migration and validation processes.
Transition and adapt CI/CD pipelines, workflows, and integrations to GitHub Actions and GitHub APIs.
Mentor team members on GitHub best practices, including repository management, workflows, and collaboration techniques.
Troubleshoot and resolve migration-related issues promptly.
Work closely with DevOps teams to ensure pipeline stability and reliability post-migration.
Document the migration process, highlighting challenges, solutions, and best practices for future reference.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience in GitHub migrations, including repository transfers and workflow configurations.
Strong expertise in Git, version control systems, and branching strategies.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, etc.).
Proficiency in Python scripting and automation.
Familiarity with DevOps and Agile methodologies.
Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to train and guide teams effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with large-scale migrations, including monorepository setups.
Knowledge of GitHub Enterprise administration.
Understanding of security best practices for source code management.
Familiarity with tools like Perforce, Bitbucket, GitLab, or SVN for migration purposes.
Certifications in DevOps or GitHub Administration (preferred).
