We are looking for a Principal Semiconductor Architect to join our team and lead the design and development of next-generation AI chips.

Job Description:

As the Principal Semiconductor Architect, you will play a key role in defining and driving the development of SandLogic’s advanced AI processors, including our flagship ExSLerate chip. You will oversee the complete lifecycle of semiconductor development—from architectural definition through to physical implementation. This position will involve working closely with our cross-functional teams to optimize power, performance, and area (PPA), and deliver world-class products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chip Architecture Definition: Lead the architectural design of AI co-processors, including system-on-chip (SoC) and specialized accelerators for Generative AI and Edge AI applications.
  • Design and RTL Development: Oversee the RTL design process, creating microarchitecture specifications, optimizing data paths, and driving the development of efficient digital circuits.
  • Verification: Develop and execute robust verification strategies, guiding the verification team to validate the chip's functional correctness and performance across all design phases.
  • Physical Implementation: Work closely with the physical design team to guide synthesis, floor planning, placement, routing, timing closure, and power analysis. Troubleshoot and resolve physical design challenges.
  • Optimization for AI Workloads: Ensure that the chip architecture and design meet the PPA targets required for AI workloads, including low-latency inference and real-time processing on edge devices.
  • Technical Leadership: Mentor junior engineers, setting best practices in chip design, verification, and implementation, while also fostering a culture of innovation.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with the software and systems teams to ensure seamless integration of the AI co-processor into broader hardware and software ecosystems.
  • Documentation and Design Reviews: Lead technical documentation efforts and participate in architecture and design reviews to ensure best practices and technical excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years in semiconductor design, with extensive experience across the entire lifecycle—architecture, RTL design, verification, and physical implementation.

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in VLSI design, digital logic design, RTL development (Verilog/VHDL), and microarchitecture.
  • Proficiency with EDA tools for synthesis, verification, and physical design (Cadence, Synopsys, etc.).
  • Experience with advanced nodes (e.g., 7nm, 5nm, or below), DFT methodologies, and low-power design techniques.
  • Strong background in programming and scripting languages (Python, Perl, TCL).
  • Experience in designing AI accelerators, DSPs, or specialized processors.

  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills, communication, and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Proven track record of leading complex chip projects to successful completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in AI hardware design, including accelerators for machine learning and inference.
  • Familiarity with high-bandwidth memory interfaces, multi-chip configurations, and multi-modal AI workloads.
  • Background in edge computing and energy-efficient processor design.
