Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager for our Cyber Defense Center (CDC) Engineering team. The successful candidate will lead the engineering efforts focused on developing, enhancing, and maintaining the security technologies and tools that enable the detection, analysis, and mitigation of cyber threats. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the organization's cybersecurity defenses.
Key Responsibilities:
Cyber Defense Engineering Leadership:
Lead the CDC Engineering team in designing, implementing, and maintaining security solutions that support the Cyber Defense Center's detection and response capabilities.
Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for security engineering, ensuring alignment with the overall cybersecurity strategy and business objectives.
Manage the lifecycle of security technologies, including security information and event management (SIEM), endpoint detection and response (EDR), network security tools, and automation platforms.
Security Architecture and Development:
Oversee the design, architecture, and integration of advanced cybersecurity tools and technologies to detect, investigate, and mitigate threats.
Collaborate with SOC (Security Operations Center) teams to enhance existing detection capabilities and build new use cases for threat detection.
Lead the development and deployment of custom scripts, automation workflows, and integrations to streamline incident response and other security operations.
Evaluate and implement new security tools and platforms that improve threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management.
Incident Response and Threat Detection Support:
Work closely with incident response teams to ensure that engineering efforts effectively support the rapid containment, investigation, and remediation of security incidents.
Optimize and tune detection rules, signatures, and security analytics to reduce false positives and improve the accuracy of threat detection.
Provide engineering support for advanced threat-hunting activities, working with threat intelligence teams to incorporate relevant data sources and threat indicators.
Team Management and Development:
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of security engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Ensure the team has the necessary skills, tools, and resources to meet engineering and cybersecurity objectives.
Drive team performance by setting goals, measuring key performance indicators (KPIs), and conducting regular performance reviews.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Partnerships:
Partner with IT, Dev Ops, and application development teams to ensure security measures are integrated into the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and cloud environments.
Work with risk management and compliance teams to ensure security solutions meet regulatory requirements and internal standards.
Act as a liaison between CDC Engineering and other cybersecurity functions, providing technical guidance and aligning objectives across the organization.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity trends, threat landscapes, and emerging technologies.
Drive continuous improvements in security monitoring, detection, and response processes through automation and innovative solutions.
Conduct regular reviews of engineering processes, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, scalability, and resilience.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
Relevant certifications such as CISSP, GCIH, GCIA, OSCP, CEH, or similar are highly desirable.
Experience:
10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with a strong focus on security engineering, threat detection, and incident response.
At least 5 years of experience leading or managing a security engineering team, preferably within a Cyber Defense Center or SOC.
Demonstrated experience with security tools such as SIEM, EDR, SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response), IDS/IPS, firewalls, and cloud security solutions.
Strong background in scripting and automation using tools such as Python, Power Shell, or Bash.
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and best practices, such as NIST, MITRE ATT&CK, and CIS Controls.
Expertise in designing and deploying security architectures in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Strong understanding of network security, endpoint security, and log management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Problem-solving mindset with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualities:
Familiarity with cloud-native security solutions and microservices architecture.
Hands-on experience with threat intelligence platforms and integrating threat feeds into security operations.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
