Director of Operations – Permanent Role Location: Chennai, India Are you ready to lead with impact? Our client is looking for a dynamic Director of Operations to drive performance, optimize processes, and elevate operational excellence across their business.

If you thrive on challenges and have a passion for results, this is your chance to shape the future with a global leader Overall Purpose of the Job: This role is responsible for driving operational performance and execution in the relevant market/region, ensuring consistent application, execution, and compliance with all technical and HSEQ requirements within their area of responsibility.

Ensuring adherence to and compliance with all relevant instructions and procedures of the client's Safety & Quality Management System, technical and crew management agreements, as well as local, national, and international statutory and legal requirements, including applicable safety and environmental legislation, is a core deliverable for this role.

This role is also accountable for growing the client’s share of the customer’s business through superior service delivery.

☝️ Key Responsibilities and Tasks: Deliver vessel performance that is significantly superior to what clients could achieve themselves or by using other ship managers.

Drive the transformation of the fleet cell model by leveraging technology, data, and innovative ways of working.

Ensure that the client's Safety & Quality Management System (SMS) is established across offices and the managed fleet, with sufficient resources available to enable safe and efficient operations, while maintaining full regard for the environment and property.

Initiate an annual management review of the Company's Safety & Quality Management System to monitor and, where appropriate, improve office performance.

Proactively develop client relationships by continuously improving service levels in accordance with the relevant Management Agreements, enhancing customer satisfaction and Net Promoter Score (NPS).

In the event of a client complaint, ensure prompt investigation, appropriate corrective action, and timely communication with senior management and the client.

Ensure that all relevant management processes, procedures, and systems are in place and executed across the managed fleet according to required standards and expectations.

Oversee the effective implementation of the annual budget process across the managed fleet, ensuring budget targets are met, revenue streams are maximized, and fixed costs minimized.

Work with the MD to ensure timely collection of management fees and invoices.

In collaboration with Crew Management, ensure that qualified, competent, and experienced personnel are appointed, retained, and developed in key positions, both ashore and afloat, and that essential knowledge and skills are maintained.

Partner with Marine Services, ensuring full transparency to clients, to explore the full range of potential marine service offerings across the managed fleet, maximizing the value the client can provide.

Provide guidance to Fleet Managers to ensure awareness of local industry developments and relevant statutory regulations.

Ensure risk assessments for all existing and new business projects are in place, initiated, executed, and closed out in a timely manner.

Maintain oversight of incidents and accidents, ensuring they are handled with honesty and transparency, while considering the influence of human factors on behaviors.

✅ Qualifications: Master Mariner, Chief Engineer, Naval Architect, or a similar qualification in a marine-related managerial role.

Strong technical understanding and knowledge of all requirements for the safe and efficient operation of a managed fleet, combined with experience in managing financial budgets.

Solid understanding of Port State Control, Flag State, MLCC compliance, and vessel classification.

Proven experience in managing and supervising teams, with the ability to share knowledge and develop staff.

Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, capable of engaging with individuals at all levels.

High personal integrity and ethical standards.

Positive and self-motivated team leader with a proactive attitude.

Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to drive change effectively.

Excellent analytical and numerical reasoning skills, using data to inform decision-making, with a keen attention to detail.
