Job Title : General Manager - Legal

We are looking to expand our team with an experienced, strategic, and hands-on Legal Professional to manage and oversee all aspects of the legal operations across our organization.
Role Overview:
As the General Manager - Legal , you will be responsible for providing legal and strategic counsel across all aspects of the company's operations, including broadcast, digital media, intellectual property, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation, and risk management. You will lead a team of legal professionals, ensuring that Republic Media Network adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
You will play a key role in shaping and executing the legal strategy, supporting business decisions, and managing complex legal challenges in the rapidly evolving media landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expert legal advice and support to the management team, senior executives, and departments on a broad range of legal matters, including media law, intellectual property, advertising laws, and regulatory issues.
Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial agreements, partnerships, content distribution agreements, licensing agreements, and service contracts, ensuring they align with the company’s objectives and risk management policies.
Manage all ongoing litigation matters and represent the company in disputes, legal proceedings, and arbitrations. Work closely with external counsel when required, and provide strategic direction on legal matters.
Monitor and ensure compliance with industry regulations, including broadcasting and media laws, data privacy laws (such as GDPR), and other applicable regulations in the media and entertainment sector.
Develop and oversee strategies for protecting the company’s intellectual property (IP), including trademarks, copyrights, and content rights. Advise on IP licensing, infringement matters, and content protection.
Proactively identify and mitigate legal risks that may affect the company’s business operations, brand reputation, and market position.
Assist in ensuring corporate governance standards are met, including compliance with corporate laws, internal policies, and ethical guidelines.
Support business development and strategic initiatives, including mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, by providing legal counsel and assisting in due diligence, structuring, and execution.
Key Requirements:
LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from a reputed law school. A post-graduate degree (LLM or equivalent) or certifications in media law, IP law, or corporate law would be a plus.
Minimum 8-12 years of experience in legal practice, with at least 3 years in a managerial role, preferably within the media, entertainment, or broadcast sector.
Extensive experience in corporate law, commercial contracts, litigation, intellectual property, and media law.
Proven track record in managing legal teams and delivering strategic legal solutions in a dynamic business environment.
Skills :
Strong knowledge of Indian broadcasting laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Expertise in intellectual property law, digital media, and copyright issues.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and drafting skills.
High level of strategic thinking and business acumen.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to legal issues.
