Job Title: Dimensional Management Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Dimensional Management Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our product development phase, you will be responsible for the end-to-end dimensional management process for Mercedes Benz Body in White.

Your primary focus will be on defining tolerance specifications, creating gap & flush plans, and validating concepts through digital tolerance simulation. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and timelines of every delivery in the project.

  • Tolerance Specification Definition: Define measurement systems, locator strategies, and tolerance specifications for Body in White components and exterior trims in line with styling and manufacturing requirements.
  • Measurement System Robustness: Ensure the robustness of measurement systems from part fabrication to complete BiW.
  • Module Fitment Strategy: Analyze functional requirements of Body in White and create measurement strategies for the fitment of modules.
  • Tolerance Concept Alignment: Discuss and align tolerance concepts with stakeholders.
  • Tolerance Stack-up Study: Perform tolerance stack-up studies 1D, 2D, or 3D during the development phase to identify potential risks in production and provide solutions.
  • Tolerance Simulation: Execute tolerance simulations in 3DCS to replicate the production process digitally.
  • Concept Validation: Validate the robustness of the concept using correct probability distributions in relation to manufacturing processes.
  • Gap & Flush Planning: Create gap & flush plans & concepts to ensure visual quality of the vehicle.
  • Feedback Incorporation: Discuss with cross-functional teams for incorporating feedback and providing solutions.
  • Integration Alignment: Align sub-module integration concepts to ensure fitment and fulfill production planning requirements.
Requirements
  • Simulation Tool Proficiency: Good understanding of 3D tolerance simulation tools, preferably 3DCS.
  • G&T and SPC Knowledge: Deep understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Perceived Quality Understanding: Understanding of perceived quality and its importance in the manufacturing process.
