Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished Software Engineering Manager to lead our Ubuntu Gaming team. As a key member of our organisation, you will be responsible for driving innovation and excellence in gaming on Ubuntu.

Your mission will be to create a world-class gaming experience by maximising performance, robust anti-cheat mechanisms, full device support, and ease of content creation, sharing, and discovery. You will collaborate with open-source projects and partners to contribute to the wider Linux gaming ecosystem.

Location: This role will be based remotely in the Americas or EMEA region.

Responsibilities
  1. Optimise and Expand Ubuntu Gaming Experience: Lead your team to enhance the Ubuntu gaming experience, focusing on the Steam Snap.
  2. Manage Project Timelines: Balance feature improvements with deadlines while ensuring timely delivery.
  3. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Align your team's work with other teams and company objectives to achieve cohesive outcomes.
  4. Conduct Code Reviews: Focus on quality, performance, and modern design principles to drive excellence.
  5. Collaborate with Upstream Projects: Enhance Ubuntu's gaming capabilities by working closely with partners like Proton and Unity.
  6. Ensure Comprehensive Ubuntu Experience: Work closely with other teams to deliver a seamless user experience.
  7. Drive Performance Improvements: Enhance performance across various hardware configurations.
  8. Gather Feedback: Engage actively with the open source and gaming community to gather feedback and collaborate on improvements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical subject or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with upstream projects and partners.
  • Familiarity with the Linux graphics stack, including user-space components and kernel drivers.
  • Exceptional software project management skills, encompassing risk assessment and resource allocation.
  • Able to balance technical leadership with effective team management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and external interactions.
  • Robust planning skills, demonstrated by capacity to manage multi-cycle improvements.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events.
