Senior Platform Architect

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced software engineering leader with a strong background in platform architecture to lead the design and development of our SaaS platform.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in an architecture or senior technical leadership role. They should have strong full-stack expertise with MERN stack technologies such as MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js.

Key Responsibilities:

• Translate product epics into modular service contracts, data flow diagrams, and scalable system components using techniques like microservices and event-driven architecture.
• Decide and implement optimal architectural patterns such as monolith vs. microservices, REST vs. event-driven, DB index vs. cache, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
• Drive multi-tenant architecture for user/workspace models and complex permission systems, taking into account data migration and schema design principles.

Platform Standards & DevOps

• Define and enforce platform-wide standards, including naming conventions, code formatting rules, ADRs, and review checklists, ensuring consistency across the organization.
• Collaborate with DevOps to design high-availability infrastructure and auto-scaling environments on AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, CloudFront, Cognito), focusing on performance, cost optimization, and serverless functions.
• Own CI/CD pipelines and schema migration strategies with an emphasis on zero-downtime deployments and one-click rollbacks, utilizing tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines.

Observability & Performance

• Lead the implementation of observability practices using tools like Datadog, New Relic, Sentry, or OpenTelemetry, ensuring metrics are monitored with < 10% infrastructure cost waste and < 5 false positive alerts per month.
• Design and execute load-testing scenarios replicating high-concurrency use cases, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.

Team Mentorship & Leadership

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, architecture clinics, and pair programming sessions, promoting knowledge sharing and skills growth.
• Foster cross-team architecture reviews and ensure no major feature ships without architectural alignment, maintaining engineering discipline and standards.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in an architecture or senior technical leadership role.
• Strong full-stack expertise with MERN stack technologies.
• Demonstrated success in designing multi-tenant architectures and scalable systems handling 1,000+ requests per minute.
• Advanced proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, IAM, CloudFront, and Cognito.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and observability stacks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of summarizing trade-offs clearly for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience with education platforms or SaaS tools for service businesses.
• Experience with event brokers such as Kafka, NATS, or RabbitMQ.
• Deep knowledge of schema design, role-based access control, and data migration in NoSQL environments.
