AI Safety Engineer

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced AI safety engineer to join our team. As an AI safety engineer, you will be responsible for designing and building guardrails for prompt injection protection, toxicity/bias detection, and hallucination/jailbreak identification to ensure the safety of large language models.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain evaluation frameworks to monitor the fairness, compliance, and overall health of large language models.
  • Build automated pipelines using Python and SQL to process, tag, and evaluate large language model outputs.
  • Use vector databases and embeddings to identify unsafe content or model drift and prevent potential issues.
  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers and product teams to integrate large language model safety components into production APIs or applications.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or large language model-based applications.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience writing SQL for data exploration or feature engineering.
  • A solid understanding of natural language processing, deep learning (CNN/RNN/Transformers), and large language model architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Hugging Face, LangChain, large language model APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic), and vector stores (FAISS, Pinecone, Chroma).
  • Familiarity with front-end basics (Streamlit, Dash, or simple HTML/CSS/JS) is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience with model evaluation, red-teaming, or safety interventions in natural language processing/large language model systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • (Preferred) Familiarity with deploying machine learning pipelines in production (Docker, FastAPI) and ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
