Job Title: Climate Adaptation Expert

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Integrate climate change priorities into national development frameworks, ensuring alignment with global agreements and national goals.
  • Conduct comprehensive climate vulnerability assessments across various sectors, including agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems.
  • Apply advanced climate models and analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.
  • Develop and implement effective adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate the techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and identify relevant financing sources.
  • Support the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting international mechanisms.
  • Facilitate inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
  • Align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a field related to climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, or natural resource management.
  • 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Low-Emission Development Strategies (LEDS), or National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
  • Proficiency in conducting Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (VRAs) and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections.
  • Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Familiarity with international climate finance mechanisms.

 

Preferred Attributes
  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development.
  • Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation approaches and nature-based solutions.
  • Ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning.
