Mainframe Storage Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Storage System Engineer to ensure the optimal performance and reliability of our storage infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of mainframe storage subsystems, including DASD, Tape, and automation skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Mainframe storage subsystems for compatibility, performance, and reliability.
  • Perform thorough storage capacity planning and provisioning to meet current and future storage requirements effectively.
  • Configure and manage storage management software and utilities to automate storage administration tasks, enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Monitor storage performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving bottlenecks, and optimizing data placement.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery and data replication solutions for Mainframe storage systems.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, database administrators, and application teams to support data backup and recovery operations and data migration projects.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation, procedures, and standards for storage administration tasks.
  • Provide expert technical support and assistance to internal teams and end-users, troubleshooting and resolving storage-related issues efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, and/or equivalent military experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Mainframe storage subsystems, architecture, and management.
  • Experience with storage management software and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMSdss, and DFSMSrmm.
  • Proficiency with storage virtualization technologies and concepts, including DASD, VTS, and SAN/NAS storage provisioning.
  • Knowledge of storage networking protocols and technologies, such as FICON, Fibre Channel, and SCSI.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • IBM Certified Specialist - Storage Technical V2 or equivalent certification in Mainframe storage administration.
  • 5+ years of experience with Mainframe virtualization technologies such as z/VM and z/Linux.
  • 4+ years of experience utilizing DevOps practices and tools for Mainframe storage administration and automation.
