Job Title: IBM MQ Administrator

  • Manages, maintains and optimizes existing IBM MQ messaging infrastructure.
  • Ensures high availability, performance and security of mission-critical messaging systems.
  • Provides expert-level operational support and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads day-to-day administration and support of complex, existing IBM MQ environments.
  • Enforces and maintains established MQ security policies and procedures, including authentication, authorization (OAM), and encryption (TLS/SSL).
  • Monitors system performance, conducts capacity planning and proactively addresses potential bottlenecks within the existing infrastructure.
  • Maintains and executes established disaster recovery plans for the MQ infrastructure, including backup/restore procedures and failover testing.
  • Leads troubleshooting and resolution of complex MQ issues, including performance problems, security incidents and system outages.
  • Maintains and enhances existing automated monitoring and alerting solutions for the MQ environment.
  • Provides technical guidance and support to other IT teams and application developers regarding MQ usage and best practices.
  • Leads planning and execution of MQ upgrades, migrations (within existing architecture) and patch management.
  • Collaborates with application teams to troubleshoot and resolve MQ-related application issues.
  • Maintains comprehensive documentation for the existing MQ architecture, configurations and procedures.
  • Serves as primary escalation point for all MQ-related operational issues.
  • Stays current with IBM MQ best practices and security updates and applies them to the existing environment.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience administering IBM MQ in complex, enterprise-scale environments.
  • Expert-level knowledge of IBM MQ concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Azure cloud is a plus.
  • Proven experience managing and maintaining robust and scalable MQ architectures.
  • Scripting and automation skills are a plus.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities, with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues under pressure.
