Senior Legal Risk Manager

As a seasoned professional in the banking sector, you will play a pivotal role in managing legal risks for DBS India. Your primary objective will be to develop and implement effective legal strategies that align with the bank's overall strategic agenda.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Managing litigation cases, evaluating strategies, identifying risks, and providing regular updates to management.
• Providing legal guidance and support to the Branch Banking team, ensuring smooth operations and addressing legal issues that may arise.
• Leading complex legal situations, leveraging your expertise in criminal law and procedures, as well as your understanding of the SARFAESI Act, Debt Recovery Tribunals, and insolvency proceedings.
• Skillfully handling fraud matters, including filing complaints and FIRs with law enforcement authorities.
• Embedding the Legal Risk and Principle Risks Standard within the business, ensuring adherence to policies.

You will also be responsible for:

• Ensuring all aspects of legal risk are identified, covered, and controlled in the implementation of new projects, systems, procedures, and products for the Indian market.
• Reviewing projects to ensure consistent content, cost, and timing standards.
• Providing legal advice to business managers, identifying and resolving legal issues, and managing legal risk appropriately.
• Ensuring best practices are adopted and guidelines are complied with, while adhering to applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
• Managing and controlling external legal resources, negotiating and settling external legal fees, and serving as liaison between banking personnel and external legal advisers.
• Maintaining an up-to-date and relevant knowledge of principal areas of law and practice in India.

In addition, you will:

• Proactively build relationships with various business areas and third parties to foster high-quality output and service from the team.
• Monitor client satisfaction and the legal effectiveness of individual transactions and cost management of the legal advice provided.
• Share knowledge and experience with other legal advisers within the team and globally, participating in relevant practice groups.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

• A qualified lawyer with post-qualification experience in banking law, commensurate with the required capabilities.
• 10-15 years of commercial and banking law industry practice.
• Excellent diagnostic skills and rigorous approach to problem-solving.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills at all levels, particularly drafting and writing skills.
• Strong comprehension skills to understand and interpret industry data and economic trends.
• Formal presentation skills to gain acceptance to solutions, both internally and externally.
• Attention to detail and tenaciousness.
• Leadership experience in leading teams and creating coordination skills to mobilize, manage, and review control issues.
• Ability to think creatively and identify innovative solutions.
• Extensive knowledge of banking and commercial law.
• Strong technical ability to grasp new technical areas of law quickly.
• Knowledge of related laws and regulations in India.
