Compliance Officer Job Description

This role requires a Compliance Administrator to provide administrative support to the Compliance Function. The primary responsibilities include managing compliance registers, supporting audits, handling data requests, and maintaining up-to-date compliance records in line with higher education regulations and UK GDPR.

  • Support the Head of Compliance in the day-to-day management of compliance obligations (OfS, UK GDPR etc.).
  • Maintain compliance trackers and logs (e.g., risk register, GDPR incident log, training completion log, policy review calendar).
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure timely submission of statutory returns or compliance actions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage compliance registers and maintain accurate records of data processing activities (RoPA), data breaches and near misses, subject rights requests (e.g., DSAR log), policy reviews and updates.
  • Collate documentation and evidence for internal and external audits or inspections (e.g., OfS). Generate monthly and quarterly compliance status reports and dashboards for internal use.
  • Monitor and report on completion rates of mandatory compliance training and provide administrative support for scheduling and tracking training, webinars, and briefings.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience in an administrative or compliance support role (3–5 years).
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and record-keeping.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Familiarity with data protection principles under UK GDPR.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Understanding of cybersecurity risks and controls, including the importance of breach notification procedures and secure data handling.
