Procurement Strategist Role

The Procurement Manager will oversee the procurement of raw materials, mining equipment, and contracted services required for smooth operations. This role involves developing vendor relationships, optimizing costs, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and meeting production demands.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop strategic procurement plans tailored to the minerals and mining industry requirements.
  • Source, negotiate, and finalize contracts for equipment, spare parts, explosives, fuel, and other mining-related consumables.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure timely supply.
  • Monitor market trends and logistics costs to achieve cost savings through effective procurement strategies.
  • Ensure inventory planning is aligned with operations and warehouse teams to optimize supply chain efficiency.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, reliability, pricing, and delivery timelines to inform procurement decisions.
  • Ensure all purchases comply with statutory requirements, safety norms, and environmental regulations to maintain a responsible and compliant procurement function.
  • Manage contracts with logistics providers for mineral transportation to ensure efficient and safe movement of goods.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation in procurement to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Mining Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 7–10 years of procurement experience, with at least 4–5 years in the minerals/mining sector, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of mining equipment, spare parts, raw materials, and international trade regulations to inform procurement decisions.
  • Excellent negotiation, vendor management, and contract drafting skills to secure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, inventory management, and MS Office to support procurement operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership abilities to drive strategic procurement initiatives and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with safety, statutory compliance, and sustainability practices in mining to ensure responsible procurement practices.
