Job Title: Excise Tax Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Excise Tax Specialist to join our team. As an Excise Tax Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Research and analyze tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance with country, state, county, and local jurisdiction tax laws.
  • Determine tax types for Motor Fuel, Sales and Use, Tobacco, and other United States and Canadian tax categories.
  • Collaborate with Indirect Tax Researchers to review and validate their research and work product.
  • Monitor legislation, administrative decisions, and judicial decisions for changes in transaction taxes in assigned jurisdictions or topical areas.
  • Apply taxability changes to our software while providing concise documentation of the changes.
  • Validate test transactions pre-production based on tax research results.
  • Establish productive working relationships with state, county, and city authorities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, law, economics, or a related field.
  • JD/LLM, or CPA/Chartered Accountant certification.
  • A minimum of 4+ years of experience in research and analysis and/or government compliance, preferably in multiple areas of tax such as excise tax, tobacco, alcohol, motor fuel tax, sales & use.
  • Indirect tax, research, consulting, or advisory experience in USA Indirect Taxation.
  • Ability to serve as analyst for complex tax research efforts related to taxation of sales and use, tobacco, motor fuels, and other commodities in the United States and Canada.
  • Excellent research skills to locate, understand, and explain complex tax requirements and scenarios from a functional and technical perspective.
  • Knowledge of database management systems and ability to create basic to complex SQL queries.
