Job Overview

The Senior SQL Database Administrator plays a pivotal role in crafting, deploying, and maintaining high-performance databases that align with the organization's evolving business objectives.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, manage, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL 2005 – SQL 2022 databases to ensure seamless performance.
  • Implement service packs, cumulative updates, hotfixes (GDR, QFE), and patch management strategies to maintain database integrity.
  • Patch hierarchy and clarity on SQL Build numbers and Internal Database build numbers are crucial for efficient troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Migrate SQL Server from older versions to newer versions, taking into account compatibility and data consistency.
  • Configure Linked Servers between same or different SQL Server versions to facilitate streamlined data exchange.
  • Set up contained databases and utilize them for effective migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.
  • Design recovery models and implement backup strategies that meet the organization's business continuity requirements.
  • Fine-tune backups using Backup Encryption, Compression, and special parameters to optimize storage and retrieval efficiency.
  • Handle Master, Model, MSDB, TEMPDB, and Resource database corruptions with expertise and precision.
  • Implement High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR) solutions like Log Shipping, Mirroring, Clustering, Always-On AG, and Replication to ensure business continuity.
  • Demonstrate hands-on knowledge of Windows Cluster, Quorum, Dynamic Quorum, Voting Mechanism, Failovers through Cluster Administrator and commands.
  • Demonstrate hands-on knowledge of SQL Server Cluster scenarios, including Failover, Adding Disk to existing instances with dependencies, Advanced Cluster Parameters, and patching clustered instances.
  • Implement Always-On AG on standalone instances across Windows Cluster in Synchronous mode and Asynchronous mode, meeting stringent availability requirements.
  • Handle advanced Always-On AG scenarios, including Failover, adding new data/log files, Lease Timeout, Health check timeout, and Failure Condition Level parameters, configuring Read-Only Routing, listeners, and backup configurations.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server Architecture, parameters, T-SQL, Triggers, and Procedures is essential for successful database administration.
  • Administration and configuration of HA/DR solutions, including Clustering and Always-On Group, require expertise and attention to detail.
  • Configuration and management of all types of Replications and troubleshooting involve analyzing complex issues and implementing effective resolutions.
  • Patch management is critical for maintaining database integrity and preventing security vulnerabilities.
  • Always On AG scenarios – Failover requires meticulous planning and execution to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Server capacity monitoring, analysis, and tuning activities help optimize database performance and resource utilization.
  • Automation using scripts and tools in the area of Backup, Monitoring, Resource Utilization, HA alerts, capacity plan management streamline database administration tasks.
  • SQL Server Tuning involves fine-tuning database performance to meet demanding application requirements.
