Medical Coding Specialist

As a key member of the healthcare team, Medical Coders play a critical role in ensuring accurate and efficient reimbursement for medical services.

Responsibilities:

  • Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes.
  • Ensure that codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations.
  • Review patient charts and documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Follow up with providers on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear.
  • Communicate effectively with other clinical staff regarding documentation and coding issues.
  • Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual.
  • Stay current with changes to coding guidelines and regulations.

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience as a Medical Coder.
  • Medical coding certification or successful completion of a certification program (CPC).
  • Bachelor's degree with pre-health career track preferred.
  • Excellent administrative writing and reporting skills.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and organization.
  • Typing and solid oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Expertise with ICD-X codes and CPT Procedures.
  • Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs.
