Agri Commodity Trader Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring domestic and international markets for Agri-commodity price trends and supply-demand dynamics. Key responsibilities include executing buy/sell trades in physical or derivatives markets, spot futures options in the Domestic markets, creating analysing spread/arbitrage opportunities in domestic markets, developing relationships with farmers brokers processors exporters importers and institutional clients, negotiating contracts and prices for procurement and sale of commodities, analysing weather patterns crop reports government policies and global trade data to inform trading strategies, managing logistics warehousing and delivery schedules in coordination with supply chain partners, mitigating risk using hedging strategies via commodity exchanges like NCDEX MCX and CBOT, ensuring compliance with trade regulations quality standards and documentation, maintaining trading books daily position reports and profitability tracking, providing inputs to procurement teams on price outlook and procurement planning.

  • Monitor market fluctuations and anticipate potential risks.
  • Execute trades in both physical and derivative markets, including spot, futures, and options.
  • Create and analyse spread and arbitrage opportunities within the domestic market.
  • Develop strong relationships with various stakeholders, including farmers, brokers, processors, exporters, importers, and institutional clients.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements for commodity procurement and sales.
  • Utilise weather data, crop reports, government policies, and global trade information to inform trading decisions.
  • Manage logistical operations, including warehousing and delivery schedules, in collaboration with supply chain partners.
  • Implement risk management strategies, leveraging tools such as commodity exchanges (NCDEX, MCX, and CBOT).
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, quality standards, and documentation protocols.
  • Maintain accurate trading records, track daily positions, and monitor profitability.
  • Provide valuable insights to procurement teams regarding market trends and procurement planning.

Essential skills and qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in agriculture Economics Business or related field, MBA/PGDM preferred. Proficiency in data analysis, market intelligence tools, and Excel is required. Strong negotiation, communication, and networking skills are essential for success in this role. Ability to thrive in high-pressure trading environments and make quick decisions is also critical.
