  • Leading and coaching the team/organization in its Scrum adoption
  • Guiding the team and organization on how to use Scrum practices and values to delight customers
  • Facilitating self-organization, autonomy, and cross-functional teamwork
  • Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment
  • Working with the Scrum Team and the Product Owner to negotiate the minimum viable product for delivery
  • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged
  • Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Engaging with other Scrum Masters to increase the effectiveness of the application of Scrum in the organization

The Skills that are Key to this role

Technical / Behavioral

Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least 2 years for a development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.

Knowledge of numerous well-documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burn-down techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs).

Hands-on experience in technology teams.

Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD.
