DB2 Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned DB2 database administrator to manage, optimize, and support our DB2 database environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in DB2 administration, performance tuning, high availability, backup/recovery strategies, and troubleshooting critical production issues.

  • Responsibilities include installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining DB2 database systems.
  • Monitor and improve database performance by analyzing query execution plans and adjusting configurations as needed.
  • Manage backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime.
  • Develop and enforce database security policies and user access controls to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Collaborate with application teams to support database design, query optimization, and schema changes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database incidents and performance issues.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 8-10 years of hands-on experience in DB2 database administration (LUW and/or z/OS).
  • Strong understanding of database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with HADR, Data Sharing, and replication technologies.
  • Proficiency in backup and recovery strategies, DR planning, and execution.
  • Solid understanding of database security, roles, and privileges.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting languages and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of OS-level concepts related to DB2.
Good to Have
  • Exposure to cloud database services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of other RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
