Job Title: Messaging Infrastructure Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Messaging Infrastructure Specialist to administer and support messaging systems on the z/OS platform. The ideal candidate will ensure a secure, reliable, and high-performing infrastructure that supports enterprise applications and batch processes.

The role demands deep technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams to maintain mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain messaging systems on z/OS.
  • Manage messaging objects including queue managers, queues, channels, and cluster configurations.
  • Monitor messaging performance and availability, applying tuning techniques to optimize throughput and reduce latency.

Upgrade Support:

  • Plan and execute upgrades of messaging components on z/OS.
  • Conduct compatibility checks, regression testing, and rollback planning.
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to ensure minimal disruption during upgrades.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and version control records for upgrades.

Security & Compliance:

  • Implement and manage messaging security protocols including TLS/SSH certificates, RACF integration, and security exits.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards for secure messaging environments.

System Integration:

  • Support integration of messaging systems with z/OS subsystems including CICS, DB2, and IMS.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX, JCL, or Assembler for messaging operations.

Disaster Recovery & High Availability:

  • Design and implement messaging Queue Sharing Groups and RESLEVEL configurations for high availability.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning, testing, and failover strategies for messaging environments.

Collaboration & Support:

  • Partner with developers, infrastructure teams, and support staff to troubleshoot and resolve messaging-related issues.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing within the team.

Documentation & Process Improvement:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of messaging configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Identify, propose, and implement automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Technical Expertise:

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with messaging systems on z/OS.
  • Deep understanding of messaging Queue Sharing Groups, FTE configurations, and messaging monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency in COBOL, REXX, JCL, and related language tools.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in hybrid team environments.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Messaging Administrator Certification (or equivalent relevant certification).
