Indirect Tax Associate Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Indirect Tax Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of indirect tax laws and regulations, as well as excellent analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting clients in responding to department inquiries, investigations, and audits.
  • Preparing replies to show-cause notices and audit responses.
  • Meeting with tax officers for hearings as required.
  • Preparing tax appeals for submission to the Joint Commissioner (Appeals) and the Court (Tribunal, High Court / Supreme Court).
  • Assisting seniors in representation before various judicial forums.
  • Conducting comprehensive research on various topics.

Client Service Delivery/Execution:

  • Identifying and discussing technical issues with clients while being mindful of firm risk issues.
  • Handling tax matters, including preparation of submissions, replies to notices, appeals, meetings with tax authorities, and representation during appeals.
  • Executing work on a multiple client base, assuming near independent responsibility for smaller clients.
  • Developing rapport with middle layers of client management.

Commercial Acumen:

  • Staying abreast of firm-wide and competitor activities, as well as general business trends.
  • Applying knowledge to deliver solutions to clients and adding value to their experience.
  • Networking and identifying opportunities for existing clients and communicating with senior teams.
  • Internal networking within peer groups and other levels in the firm to gain understanding of issues impacting clients.

Strong Knowledge Base:

  • Staying up-to-date with the latest developments in tax and other laws.
  • Contributing to knowledge management activities of the firm.

Requirements:

  • Qualified CA/LLB or equivalent qualification.
  • 0-2 years of experience in indirect tax would be preferred (GST, Customs, etc.).
