Assistant Manager Pharmacy Role Overview

The Assistant Manager Pharmacy is a key position in ensuring the smooth operation of our hospital pharmacy. This role requires strong leadership and organizational skills to oversee daily pharmacy activities, including dispensing, billing, and stock management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management
    • Supervise daily pharmacy operations, including medication dispensing, billing, and stock control.
    • Monitor medication inventory levels and maintain adequate stock.
    • Ensure proper storage conditions for medicines as per statutory norms.
    • Oversee the movement of medications, surgical items, and consumables within the hospital.
  • Procurement & Inventory Control
    • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for timely procurement of medications and consumables.
    • Implement cost-saving measures without compromising on quality or patient safety.
    • Identify slow-moving, near-expiry, and non-moving stocks and take corrective action to minimize waste and optimize inventory levels.
    • Perform regular physical stock verification and reconciliation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Compliance & Quality
    • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and hospital policies, including the Drugs & Cosmetics Act and NABH/JCI standards.
    • Maintain records of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and high-value drugs as required by law.
    • Verify prescriptions, promote rational drug use, and ensure patient safety protocols are followed.
  • Team Management
    • Supervise pharmacists and support staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and promoting a culture of excellence.
    • Provide training, guidance, and ongoing learning opportunities for pharmacy staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
    • Manage staff duties and manpower requirements effectively to ensure seamless pharmacy operations.
  • Financial & Reporting
    • Assist in preparing pharmacy budgets and monitoring expenses to ensure financial sustainability.
    • Analyze sales and consumption trends, preparing management information reports to inform strategic decisions.
    • Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely closure of non-conformities and maintaining regulatory compliance.
