SQL Database Administrator Job Description

The Role of MS SQL Database Administrator involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of our databases, ensuring they run efficiently and effectively.

This senior-level position requires a minimum of 6-12 years of experience in database administration with a strong background in MS SQL Server and experience working with PostgreSQL DBA. The ideal candidate will have expertise in installing, upgrading, and migrating SQL Servers, as well as configuring High Availability/Disaster Recovery solutions.

We are looking for an expert who can configure automated alerts to notify the team of any issues, work on incidents, change tickets, and problem tickets, and set up maintenance plans for backups, database integrity checks, rebuilding indexes, updating statistics, and ensuring all jobs run without issues.

The successful candidate will also be skilled in troubleshooting locking issues, including deadlocks, blocking, lock timeouts, and fixing them, participating in bridge calls to troubleshoot and fix P1 (SEV1) and P2 (SEV2) incidents, and executing changes to db schema while maintaining a controlled development database environment.

We require someone who has hands-on experience in Always On and DB Mirroring, collaborating with application developers to test, configure, and optimize servers based on application demands, handling database object deployment to Integration, QA, UAT, and Production, providing day-to-day support for high OLTP HA of SQL Server databases - identifying root causes of production problems and working with developers to resolve such problems.

Additionally, the ideal candidate should be willing to work in 24X7 projects (shifts), have experience in scripting using Perl, Power Shell, and experience in AWS/Azure. Any of the following certificates would be added advantage: SQL Server certifications, SQL Cloud-based solutions and experience.
