Cloud Infrastructure Specialist

This role is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the cloud infrastructure that supports our Warehouse Management System (WMS) in production.

The Senior Cloud Engineer will be accountable for deploying, supporting and scaling Windows Server environments on AWS, provisioning and managing SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases, migrating customer databases between instances to optimise performance, managing backups and recovery, and ensuring the reliability of hybrid cloud applications including Windows Forms applications delivered via Thinfinity VirtualUI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Infrastructure Development: Deploy, configure and maintain Windows Server virtual machines within AWS. Provision, manage and optimise performance for SQL Server and PostgreSQL database instances.
  • Migration Planning and Execution: Plan and execute migrations of customer environments and databases across AWS instances and services.
  • Hybrid Cloud Support: Support and maintain hybrid cloud environments, as well as web applications and serverless components.
  • High Availability: Ensure high availability for Windows-based applications delivered through Thinfinity VirtualUI.
  • Cost Efficiency: Proactively identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across the AWS infrastructure without compromising performance or reliability.
  • Production Operations and Reliability Engineering: Monitor the production environment to ensure optimal system uptime and performance across all customers. Implement automation solutions to support proactive maintenance, resource scaling, and incident response.
  • Infrastructure-As-Code: Apply infrastructure-as-code principles for repeatable and reliable cloud deployments.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, networking, and database issues affecting production systems.
  • Application Hosting and Optimisation: Host and manage .NET applications (Web APIs, and ASP.NET apps) across IaaS, PaaS, and serverless environments. Host and manage legacy Windows applications in a virtual server environment. Evaluate and implement best-fit hosting strategies for components of the WMS stack.
  • Windows Server Environments: Support Windows Server environments, including maintenance updates and upgrading versions.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with development teams to align infrastructure with application architecture and release cycles.
  • Technical Development and Collaboration: Work closely with the Development Manager and DevOps teams to define cloud architecture and operational strategies. Develop and maintain documentation for environment configurations, processes, and recovery procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: 7+ years of professional experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, with a focus on AWS. Proven experience deploying and managing Windows Server environments in production.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with AWS services: EC2, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, Systems Manager, Lambda, etc. Strong knowledge of Windows Server and remote access configurations.
  • Desired Competencies: Cloud Reliability Engineering, Database Management, Automation-First Mindset, Cost-Conscious Mindset, Production Ownership, Documentation and Process Discipline.
