Job Title: Background Verification Specialist

About the Role

The Background Verification (BV) Specialist will be responsible for owning and driving the multi-layered BV process. This role requires strong interpersonal judgment, advanced stakeholder handling skills, and the ability to tactfully extract and analyse sensitive feedback from former managers, peers, and HR contacts.

The BV Manager will act as a gatekeeper of organisational integrity, making hiring recommendations that balance factual findings with a deep understanding of behavioural and cultural alignment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Owning the complete BV process from behavioural and credential checks to reference validations and statutory verifications.
  • Validating candidate credibility through structured internal & external feedback, LinkedIn reviews, and public reputation research.
  • Coordinating with vendors & internal stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant background checks.
  • Compiling clear BV reports with strengths, risks, and recommendations for committee decision-making.
  • Maintaining compliance & confidentiality under DPDP, GDPR, and organisational policies.
  • Identifying and escalating red flags related to misrepresentation, false credentials, or integrity issues.
Requirements
  • Advanced Communication Skills - able to tactfully address inconsistencies and gain accurate information from guarded sources.
  • Investigative Approach - proactive in conducting external research beyond provided references.
  • Behavioural Evaluation Expertise - strong understanding of workplace behaviours and cultural fit assessment.
  • Influencing Skills - persuasive in presenting findings to leadership for critical hiring decisions.
  • Confidentiality & Professional Ethics - trusted to handle sensitive, confidential information.
  • Detail Orientation & Process Adherence - disciplined in following structured frameworks and documenting findings.
Qualifications

Graduate / Postgraduate in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related discipline.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of Talent Acquisition / HR experience with minimum 3 years in BV Compliance or investigative hiring functions.
