Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned COBOL and IDMS professional to fill a critical role on our team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of COBOL programming language, CICS BMS, DB2, and IDMS databases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Document the functionality, processes, and data structures of existing COBOL DB2/IDMS applications.
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather and understand system requirements, workflows, and dependencies.
  • Develop data models for migrating COBOL applications from DB2/IDMS to target database, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Design a comprehensive data migration strategy to transfer data from DB2/IDMS to target database, including data mapping, transformation rules, and validation.
  • Work closely with development, QA, and operations teams to ensure smooth migration of applications and data.
  • Perform testing and validation of the migrated data, resolving discrepancies and ensuring system functionality post-migration.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges related to data migration and develop contingency plans.
  • Provide documentation and technical support throughout the migration process, ensuring best practices and standards are followed.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The following skills and qualifications are required for this position:

  • Strong experience with COBOL programming language and CICS BMS.
  • In-depth knowledge of DB2 and IDMS databases.
  • Proven expertise in analyzing and documenting legacy COBOL DB2 applications.
  • Experience in data migration strategies, particularly to IDMS.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data mapping, and ETL processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills

The following skills are preferred but not required:

  • Experience with modernization and migration of legacy systems.
  • Knowledge of COBOL, DB2, IDMS, and CICS BMS.
