Director of Software Engineering Job Description


If you are a software engineering leader ready to drive impact and innovation, this opportunity is for you.

As a Director of Software Engineering, you will lead a technical area and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. You will utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and driving innovation and solution delivery.

Job Responsibilities:

- Lead Technology Implementations: Drive functional technology objectives by implementing cutting-edge solutions.

- Makes Decisions that Influence Teams: Make informed decisions that impact team resources, budget, operations, and execution.

- Carries Governance Accountability: Ensure coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success align with company goals.

- Delivers Technical Solutions: Develop and deliver innovative technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple businesses and domains.

- Influences Peer Leaders and Senior Stakeholders: Champion the firm's culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect, influencing peer leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology teams.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience, along with 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate, and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Oracle, ReactJS, NodeJS, Java, and Python.
  • Experience with AWS.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle production incidents quickly in a complex environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience developing or leading cross-functional teams of technologists.
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent.
  • Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in a similar role within a financial services or technology company.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
