Senior Ecosystem Modelling Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to work on developing and implementing cutting-edge ecosystem modelling solutions. As a skilled environmental modeller with strong programming expertise, you will be responsible for translating complex modelling concepts into robust, production-ready code that enhances our ability to make accurate predictions of soil carbon levels and agricultural system interactions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining model components such as plant growth models, soil organic carbon models, and grazing models
  • Implementing and maintaining the integration between different AEM components
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of the Bayesian data assimilation framework underpinning the AEM
  • Evaluating and implementing machine learning and statistical models to enhance overall accuracy and predictive power

Key qualifications include:

  • Advanced programming skills in Python with experience in scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, GeoPandas) and Bayesian statistical libraries (PyMC or similar)
  • Proven experience in environmental modelling or related areas
  • Extensive experience with machine learning techniques and their application to environmental data
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with extreme attention to detail
