Job Title: Product Category Director

The ideal candidate for this role will be responsible for driving the General Merchandise category to deliver strong business performance in line with the company's strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Category Vision & Planning:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive category vision for General Merchandise, aligning with customer needs, market trends, and company objectives.
    • Plan assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies to maximize sales and profitability.
    • Track and analyze category performance, market share, and competitor activity.
  • Supplier Partnerships:
    • Negotiate and onboard suppliers for the GM category, ensuring reliable supply and innovation in product range.
    • Build strong relationships with suppliers to drive mutual growth and success.
  • Merchandising & Assortment:
    • Design and manage the product assortment, including core, seasonal, and promotional lines, to meet customer demand and drive sales.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective inventory management and store presentation.
  • Financial Management:
    • Own the P&L of the General Merchandise category, driving margin improvement through effective sourcing and cost negotiations.
    • Monitor sales, inventory, and stock turnover, ensuring optimal stock levels and minimizing waste.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with SCM to drive demand planning and replenishment, ensuring seamless execution of category initiatives.
    • Partner with Marketing to develop promotional campaigns and product launches that drive sales and revenue growth.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven analytical and numerical skills, with a strong understanding of business operations.
  • Excellent negotiation and partnership-building skills, with experience managing supplier relationships.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and levels.
  • Customer-centric approach, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences.
  • Ability to analyze data and drive insights-based decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or related field.
  • 6-10 years of experience in buying/category management, with a proven track record of delivering results in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Experience in hypermarket/large-format retail is highly desirable.
