Network Expertise

This role involves working in a 24/7 environment to specify, manage, and improve systems related to regional area networks. The primary focus is on architecting, building, deploying, and stabilizing code, services, systems, and tools. Additionally, the expert drives standardization and service-focused instrumentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Support NOC engineers with overflow support
  • Act as the technical escalation point for NOC engineers
  • Provide advanced-level support to NOC engineers and their customers when required
  • Conduct daily network monitoring and alarm administration
  • Identify network faults using the NMS (Network Monitoring System) and initiate the restoration process
  • Provide daily outage reports to internal groups and management with progress updates
  • Assist NOC engineers in fielding partner carrier/vendor maintenance notifications, assessing network and customer impact, sending notifications to stakeholders, and making prudent business decisions based on variables
  • Lead Internal Change Management events stemming from network impairments
  • Ensure network redundancy is maintained during scheduled events, send notifications to stakeholders, and make prudent business decisions based on variables
  • Restore customer services within specified repair time frames based on SLAs
  • Investigate network outages to determine root causes and provide recommendations for changes in processes, procedures, or network configurations to prevent similar outages
  • Update trouble tickets with clear and concise notes summarizing actions taken and next steps

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience in network engineering
  • Responsible for responding to service requests, incidents from the ticket queue
  • Able to troubleshoot network issues spanning multiple network technologies like routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, SDWAN, Cisco ACI, and VxLAN
  • Able to work with vendors to troubleshoot issues and find root causes, relaying appropriate information to management
  • Experience and understanding of routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, redistribution, mpBGP, eVPN, VxLAN), QoS, firewalls (security rules, NAT rules, monitoring)
  • Basic understanding of wireless controllers, cloud computing (AWS/Azure), multicast
  • Packet monitoring and analysis using Wireshark and TCPdump

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Arista, Python, or Ansible scripting
  • Ability to collaborate with automation and reliability teams to fine-tune alerting and monitoring
  • Knowledge of F5/load balancing and troubleshooting
  • Experience with AAA (Authentication/Authorization/Accounting) software (ISE/ClearPass)
  • Understanding of WPA2/WPA3 Enterprise & PSK, RADIUS, and 802.1X concepts
