AVP Legal Role OverviewThe AVP Legal is a key leadership position that oversees all aspects of legal affairs, working closely with the Group Chief Legal Officer (GCLO) to provide strategic guidance and support.This role involves significant interaction with senior management, providing advice on a wide range of legal issues, managing external counsel relationships, and leading internal teams.Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal counsel on strategic decision-making, litigation strategy, and contract negotiations.
  • Oversee the legal aspects of company business, including corporate deals, funding transactions, and M&A activities.
  • Lead contracts function from the Legal team, drafting, negotiating, and finalizing contracts with third-party vendors, suppliers, consultants, etc.
  • Defend indemnity claims, draft responses to indemnity notices, and support the Corporate Finance team in SPV governance.
  • Support in decision making with respect to strategic litigations and lead strategic litigations as per the advice of the GCLO/management.
  • Assist the Business Acquisition team in participating in competitive bids, review bid documents, issue detailed risk analysis, address queries raised with respect to submitted bids, and vet bid proposals prior to submission.
  • Issue in-house legal opinions with respect to interpretation and strategic issues.
Qualifications:
  • Law graduate from a reputed law school.
  • Work experience of around 15+ years in multinational companies preferably in power/infrastructure/energy sectors.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Sound commercial understanding of power/energy business; and government tenders/projects.
  • Team player and ability to successfully engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal).
