Climate Intelligence Leader

The successful candidate will lead the development of climate intelligence models, ensuring a solid foundation for our Marine & Aviation platform. The role can be structured as full-time or consultancy/advisory basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Management:
    • Curate and analyze large-scale climate datasets from ERA5, CMIP6, IMERG, HYCOM, CMEMS, buoy & radar archives.
    • Develop data-driven methodologies for Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QPE) and Quantitative Current Estimation (QCE).
    • Integrate rainfall, currents, waves, and tide datasets into unified climate models.
  • Forecasting & Validation:
    • Collaborate on the design of AI-driven rainfall and ocean current forecasts.
    • Establish skill metrics and validation frameworks against gauges and station networks.
    • Support integration of aviation climatology, including turbulence, wind shear, and visibility indices.
  • Domain Leadership:
    • Mentor the AI/ML team on best practices in climatology.
    • Advise on extreme events such as monsoons, cyclones, storm surges, and turbulence corridors.
    • Represent the organization in collaborations with international climate centers.
  • Impact & Translation:
    • Translate scientific outputs into actionable insights for Navy, Ports, Aviation, and Disaster Management.
    • Shape dashboards, tiles, and alerts to reflect climatological reliability.
    Qualifications
    • PhD/Master's degree in Climatology, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Oceanography, or related field.
    • 10+ years research or applied experience in climatology/weather modeling/marine or aviation meteorology.
    • Proven expertise with datasets like ERA5, IMERG, CMIP, HYCOM, WaveWatch III.
    • Knowledge of assimilation techniques, including Kalman filters and variational assimilation.
    • Strong coding skills in Python (xarray, netCDF4, numpy, matplotlib); GIS skills are a plus.
    • Track record of publications or operational contributions (IMD, INCOIS, IITM, WMO, ECMWF, or equivalent).
