Job Title: Climate Adaptation Expert

As a Climate Adaptation Expert, you will play a pivotal role in integrating climate adaptation priorities into national frameworks to align with the Paris Agreement and development goals.

  • You will conduct Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors like agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems.
  • Using climate models and risk analytics, you will inform strategic planning and prioritize adaptation responses.
  • You will identify and size adaptation measures with clear outcomes, timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Evaluating techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions, you will map relevant financing sources.
  • You will support funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting international mechanisms.
  • Facilitating inclusive stakeholder consultations engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
  • You will align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans.
  • Contributing to Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system design in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • You must have an advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, or a related discipline.
  • You need 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS), or National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
  • Proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections.
  • A strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs.
  • Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.
  • Exposure to UNFCCC reporting processes is an advantage.
Preferred Attributes:
  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development.
  • Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches.
  • Ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning.
  • Skilled in translating technical analysis into policy guidance and investment strategies.
