System Operations Specialist

We are seeking an experienced System Operations Specialist to support our infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux systems administration, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.

  • Monitor system stability using internal tools.
  • Provide first- and second-level support for various hosting products.
  • Handle incident response, troubleshooting, and fixes for different services.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to resolve production site issues.
  • Communicate clearly on tickets and phone calls about technical matters.
  • Display a sense of urgency when resolving problems.
  • Develop advanced automation workflows to automate repetitive tasks.
  • Work with the infrastructure team to deploy and maintain servers using automated scripts and a predefined runbook.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong understanding of Linux systems, including shell/bash, sed/awk/grep/egrep, VI/VIM/Emacs, netstat, lsof, strace, ps/top/atop/dstat, grub boot config & systems rescue, fstab/disk labels, ext3/ext4, IPtables, sysstat (sar/vmstat/iostat etc), run-levels & startup scripts, sudo/chroot/chkrootkit/rkhunter.
  • Knowledge of Windows 2000/2003/2008, NTFS chkdisk/acls etc, and troubleshooting system/application faults using Event logs, Updates via WSUS, Terminal Services, IIS Fundamentals.
  • Fundamentals of Basic DNS & Networking, TCP/UDP, IP Routing, HA & Load Balancing Concepts.
  • Application Protocols: SMTP, HTTP, FTP, IMAP, POP.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and holidays.

Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of Cloud Computing.
  • Hardware: RAID, LOM/IPMI/IP KVMs, Dell Hardware.
  • Windows: WMI, Powershell/VB scripts, MS-SQL Fundamentals.
  • Applications: Postfix/qmail/Exim, Database Systems Fundamentals (MySQL/Postgres), Nginx/Apache (mod_php, mod_fcgid, CGI, php-fpm etc), Tomcat.
  • Tools/Utilities: Nagios, DHCP, Kickstart/Cobbler, Yum, RPM, GIT/SVN.
  • Others: Regular expressions, Rescue Kits like TRK, etc.
  • Certification: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), GCP.
