Supply Chain Management Role

The Supply Chain Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the end-to-end supply chain operations for a manufacturing setup. This position encompasses production planning and control, procurement, inventory management, warehousing, logistics, and scrap management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Production Planning & Scheduling:
    • Align material availability with the production plan to prevent downtime.
    • Collaborate with production, sales, and central planning teams for demand forecasting and capacity planning.
    • Monitor daily and weekly production plans and adjust schedules to meet customer delivery commitments.
  • Procurement & Supplier Coordination:
    • Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.
    • Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers.
    • Coordinate with procurement and approved vendors to track purchase orders, delivery timelines, and quality compliance.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Maintain optimal inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
    • Monitor stock ageing, non-moving inventory, and initiate timely disposal or consumption plans.
    • Ensure regular physical stock audits and reconciliation with system records.
  • Warehousing & Logistics:
    • Oversee inbound and outbound logistics to ensure timely deliveries.
    • Manage warehouse operations, space utilization, and storage safety.
    • Ensure proper documentation, dispatch scheduling, and coordination with transporters.
  • Cost & Process Optimization:
    • Identify and implement initiatives to reduce logistics, inventory carrying, and procurement costs.
    • Drive process improvements using lean principles, Kaizen, or Six Sigma methodologies.
    • Track and improve key SCM KPIs like inventory turnover, delivery accuracy, and material yield.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure adherence to company policies, EHS norms, and regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct regular training and audits to uphold safety and operational standards.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing SCM team.
    • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and development plans for the team.
    • Foster collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or Commerce (MBA or PG in Supply Chain preferred)
  • 12-20 years of relevant experience in supply chain or operations management in a manufacturing setup
  • Strong understanding of production planning, MRP, logistics, and warehousing practices
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
