Job Opportunity

We are seeking an entry-level Database Administrator to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in daily database administration tasks such as monitoring, backup and recovery, user management, and data maintenance.

This role involves the installation, configuration, monitoring, optimization, and security of database systems.

The Database Administrator will work closely with various teams to establish user needs, monitor access and security.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with database management system (DBMS) installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with software developers/architects to design and optimize database schemas, data models, and database-related applications.
  • Participate in writing database documentation, including data standards, data flow diagrams, standard operating procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries and indexing for optimal performance.
  • Design and implement robust backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data availability and business continuity.
  • Respond to database issues by bringing down the database or taking it offline.
  • Work with Change Control and Release Management functions to commission new applications and customize existing ones.
  • Plan and execute database software upgrades and apply patches to keep systems up-to-date and secure.
  • Implement and manage security measures to safeguard databases from unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency through regular validation, integrity checks, and data cleansing activities.
  • Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain compliance with data protection standards.
  • Support cross-functional teams in database-related initiatives and provide technical assistance to end-users.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, information technology or related field.
  • Relevant certification, such as MCSE DBA or equivalent.
  • Entry level experience working as a Database Administrator within an IT organization.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery best practices.
  • Experience running health assessment reports.
  • Experience working with suppliers to deliver solutions.
  • Experience managing databases.
