Agriculture Insurance Underwriter

The primary objective of this role is to carefully assess and evaluate agricultural insurance applications, ensuring accurate coverage levels and policy terms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for agriculture-related insurance applications, including crops, livestock, machinery, and farm infrastructure.
  • Analyze historical data, climate forecasts, farm management practices, and geographic factors to develop informed underwriting decisions.
  • Design and recommend suitable coverage levels and policy terms based on risk assessments and market conditions.
  • Collaborate with loss control teams to suggest effective risk management strategies to mitigate potential losses.
  • Utilize various analytical tools and techniques to assess risk, including geographic information systems (GIS), historical weather data, and crop yield reports.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions to clients, agents, and brokers, providing clear explanations of policy coverage.
  • Ensure that all underwriting practices adhere to regulatory guidelines and company policies, meeting local, regional, and national agricultural insurance regulations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of agriculture production, climate risks, and farm operations.
  • Familiarity with agricultural insurance products, including crop, livestock, and farm insurance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex risks.
  • Knowledge of underwriting software and tools, including risk modelling and GIS systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification in insurance underwriting (e.g., CPCU, ARM).
  • Experience with agriculture insurance policies specific to regional crop and livestock markets.
  • Knowledge of climate change impacts on agriculture and familiarity with sustainable farming practices.
