Job Title: Dam Design SpecialistAbout the Role:

The Dam Design Specialist is a critical position that requires an expert to oversee all design review matters after DTL and TL.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preliminary Structural Treatments (PSTs): Review submitted PSTs focusing on design aspects and basic layout plans, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Preliminary Design Assessment: Assess and finalize preliminary designs for rehabilitation works before submission to the World Bank, guaranteeing accuracy and feasibility.
  • Technical Bid Documents: Review technical bid documents, bill of quantities, and technical specifications for rehabilitation activities, identifying potential risks and opportunities.
  • Design Support: Provide need-based design of major rehabilitation components to support DRIP IAs, facilitating effective project implementation.
  • Cost Estimation: Estimate costs based on item rate analysis or Scheduled of Rates (SOR), ensuring accurate budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Physical Modelling: Offer expert input for physical modelling of significant structural interventions, contributing to informed decision-making.
  • CS&QA Activities: Participate in CS&QA activities on behalf of CPMU as a third-party CS&QA representative, promoting quality assurance and control.
  • Dam Safety Inspections: Conduct dam safety inspections and manage transmittals, ensuring the integrity and safety of dams.
  • Capacity Building: Facilitate capacity building of DRIP IAs through customized training programs at various levels, enhancing skills and knowledge.
  • Guideline Revision: Contribute to the revision of existing guidelines and the formulation of new ones, supporting continuous improvement.
  • National Website: Provide inputs for the National Website for dam safety information and the MIS system, promoting transparency and accessibility.
  • In-house Expertise: Assist in the development of in-house expertise at select Academic Institutes, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Training Calendar: Develop a Training Calendar for design activities and customized training programs for the annual DRIP Calendar, ensuring strategic planning.
  • Need-based Inspections: Conduct need-based inspections of DRIP dams, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Central DSRP Panels: Accompany central DSRP panels for special safety issues, providing expert advice and guidance.
  • DRIP-related Activity: Support any DRIP-related activity assigned by the Project Director, DRIP, CWC, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Technical Presentations: Presents technical case studies at Annual Dam Safety Conferences and international workshops/conferences, showcasing expertise and sharing best practices.
  • Collaboration: Collaborates with CPMU, CWC for joint publication of technical papers, promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Project Reports: Prepares Project Rehabilitation Reports (PRR), documenting project progress and outcomes.
  • CS&QA Manual: Contributes to the finalization of the CS&QA Manual and Plan, ensuring quality assurance and control.
