A Day in the Life

L5 System Development Engineer II will be responsible for designing and delivering innovative technology solutions that address complex business problems. You will work autonomously, with the ability to seek direction from peers and managers when needed. Your focus will be on building scalable, efficient, and cost-effective systems, ensuring they meet long-term needs. As a trusted technical contributor, you will participate in strategic planning and decision-making with customers, partner teams, and peers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Problem Solving and Solution Design

    You will identify and solve ambiguous problems, architectural deficiencies, or areas where your team's systems hinder innovation. You will design and deliver pragmatic, efficient, and cost-effective technology solutions to address complex business problems. This includes making appropriate trade-offs and re-using or extending prior work where possible. Thorough testing and clear documentation are also essential.

  2. Strategic Contribution and Influence

    You will participate in strategic planning and decision-making with customers, partner teams, and peers. This involves working backwards from the customer experience, balancing customer requirements with team requirements, and influencing your team's goals and programs. You will also participate in operational planning and review your team's technology solutions and operations.

  3. Team Mentorship and Development

    You will train new teammates, helping them understand your team's customers, systems, and processes. You will also participate in hiring and developing others, effectively mentoring team members within your organization.

  4. Operational Excellence

    You will deeply understand your team's systems and thoroughly diagnose problems in all aspects of operations, including hardware, software, and operating environments. You will resolve the root cause of difficult performance, reliability, or availability issues and deliver innovative solutions. Additionally, you will learn how your team's components behave as part of the larger organizational system and analyze systems to identify operational risks at the product or service level.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in system development and engineering
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering innovative technology solutions to complex business problems
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in strategic planning and decision-making, with the ability to balance customer and team requirements
  • Expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex operational issues, with a focus on improving system resilience
  • Experience in mentoring and developing team members

Salary: $140,000 - $200,000 per year
