Unlocking Potential: A Speech Therapist's Role in Inclusive Education
At our school, we're dedicated to providing special education and vocational training for children and adults with diverse needs. Our speech therapists play a vital role in this mission.
As a skilled Speech Therapist, you'll join a multidisciplinary team of professionals committed to supporting learners with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' speech, language, and communication abilities using standardised tests and informal evaluations.
- Develop and implement Individualised Therapy Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and goals.
- Provide one-on-one and group therapy sessions to enhance articulation, fluency, language comprehension, and expressive communication.
- Collaborate closely with special education teachers, occupational therapists, psychologists, and parents to support integrated student development.
- Monitor and document students' progress, adapting therapy plans as needed.
- Assist in the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools when appropriate.
- Educate and train staff and caregivers on effective communication strategies and support techniques.
- Participate in IEP meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders.
- Valid certification or license to practice as a Speech Therapist.
- 3 to 7 years of experience working with children and adults with multiple disabilities.
- Experience working with children with special needs is preferred.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and specialised instructional strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy.
- Proficiency in educational technology and assistive aids.
- Ability to work collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary teams.
