Procurement Specialist: Supply Chain Optimization

The role of a procurement specialist is to optimize the supply chain by identifying cost-saving opportunities and developing strategies to improve supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes, excellent negotiation and communication skills, and experience in supplier management, vendor development, and cost reduction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Identification and Evaluation:
    • Identify potential suppliers based on technical requirements, quality standards, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Conduct thorough assessments of supplier capabilities, including manufacturing processes, quality control systems, and financial stability.
    • Negotiate contracts with suppliers to ensure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Vendor Development and Improvement:
    • Collaborate with suppliers to identify areas for improvement in their processes, quality, and delivery performance.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to suppliers to enhance their capabilities and meet company requirements.
    • Implement supplier development programs to improve overall supplier performance.
  • Cost Reduction and Optimization:
    • Analyze the cost structure of products and identify opportunities for cost reduction through value engineering, process optimization, and material sourcing.
    • Negotiate with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing and favorable payment terms.
    • Implement cost-saving initiatives throughout the supply chain to reduce lead times and improve inventory management.
  • Supplier Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, fostering open communication and collaboration.
    • Manage supplier performance, track key metrics, and address any performance issues proactively.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to suppliers.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with internal teams, including engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality, to ensure alignment and effective communication.
    • Collaborate with other departments to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities throughout the product lifecycle.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Experience in supplier management, vendor development, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify areas for improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software tools.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and industry regulations.
  • Proficiency in CAD design and sheet metal fabrication techniques.
