Database Administration Role

As a senior database administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability and performance of databases. Key responsibilities include installation, configuration, management, monitoring, and troubleshooting SQL Server 2005-2022.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, manage, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL Server 2005-2022.
  • Patching and Upgrades: Install Service Packs, Cumulative Updates, Hotfixes (GDR, QFE), and upgrade/migrate SQL Server from older to newer versions.
  • Linked Servers and Backup Strategies: Configure Linked Servers between same/different SQL Server versions, set up contained databases, and design backup strategies.
  • Recovery Models and Fine Tuning: Configure recovery models, fine-tune backups using Backup Encryption, Compression, and special parameters.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Handle Master, Model, MSDB, TEMPDB, and Resource database corruptions, as well as HADR configurations like Log Shipping, Mirroring, Clustering, Always-On AG & Replication.
  • Advanced Cluster Scenarios: Manage Windows Cluster, Quorum, Dynamic Quorum, Voting Mechanism, Failovers through Cluster Administrator and commands.

Required Skills:

  • SQL Server Architecture and Parameters: Strong knowledge on SQL Server Architecture, parameters, T-SQL, Triggers, and Procedures.
  • HA/DR Solutions and Replications: Administration and configuration of HA/DR solutions – Clustering, Always-ON Group, all types of Replications, and troubleshooting.
  • Patch Management and Automation: Patch management and automation using scripts and tools for Backup, Monitoring, Resource Utilization, HA alerts, capacity plan management.
  • Server Capacity Monitoring and SQL Server Tuning: Server capacity monitoring, analysis, and tuning activities, including SQL Server Tuning.
