Job Description

As a hardware design engineer, you will be responsible for designing multi-layer PCBs for medical devices that ensure optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

You will create and optimize schematics and PCB layouts using industry-standard design tools such as Altium Designer, Eagle, or OrCAD.

Additionally, you will integrate hardware components including microcontrollers, sensors, power supplies, communication interfaces, and other embedded system components.

Close collaboration with embedded engineers is necessary to define system requirements and ensure smooth hardware-software integration.

Working closely with manufacturing teams is also crucial to ensure design-for-manufacturing principles are applied and designs can be scaled for production.

Effective interface with component suppliers is required to select optimal parts, ensuring cost-effectiveness and availability.

Developing and testing PCB prototypes is essential to ensure performance aligns with product specifications.

Performing hardware debugging and troubleshooting is necessary to resolve design issues and optimize system performance.

Conducting failure analysis, root cause analysis, and component selection reviews is necessary to enhance hardware reliability.

Maintaining comprehensive design documentation including schematics, layout files, Bill of Materials (BOM), and technical reports is required.

Contributing to risk management, FMEA, and validation processes is necessary to ensure product safety and quality.

Optimizing hardware designs for power consumption, signal integrity, EMI/EMC performance, and thermal management is essential.

Staying updated with the latest advancements in PCB technologies, materials, and industry best practices is necessary.

Participating in peer reviews and providing constructive feedback is required to enhance team-wide design quality.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field is required.
  • 4+ years of experience in PCB design with exposure to medical device development being highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, Eagle, or OrCAD is essential.
  • Familiarity with high-speed digital, analog, and mixed-signal PCB designs is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC, signal integrity, and thermal management in PCB design is necessary.
  • Understanding of medical device regulatory standards including FDA guidelines is required.
  • Experience with hardware communication protocols like UART, SPI, I2C, or CAN is desirable.
