Logistics Manager Job Description

The Logistics Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the company's logistics and supply chain operations.

This includes managing transportation, warehousing, distribution, and inventory while ensuring cost efficiency, timely delivery, compliance with regulations, and high service levels to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Logistics & Operations Management: Plan, manage, and monitor all inbound and outbound logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
  2. Ensure Timely Delivery: Deliver materials and finished goods to internal and external customers in a timely manner.
  3. Warehouse Efficiency: Oversee warehouse efficiency, inventory control, and storage optimization.
  4. Logistics Policies: Develop and implement logistics policies, procedures, and performance metrics.

Cost & Process Optimization:

  1. Logistics Cost Optimization: Optimize logistics costs through vendor negotiations, route planning, and load optimization.
  2. Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to reduce lead times and enhance efficiency.
  3. Budget Control: Monitor and control logistics budgets, ensuring alignment with financial targets.

Compliance & Safety:

  1. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company requirements related to logistics, transport, and import/export.
  2. Safety Standards: Implement safety standards in logistics and warehousing operations.

Team & Vendor Management:

  1. Team Leadership: Lead and supervise logistics staff, warehouse teams, and drivers.
  2. Vendor Management: Manage and evaluate third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight forwarders, and transporters.
  3. Relationship Building: Foster strong relationships with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders.

Technology & Reporting:

  1. ERP/WMS/TMS Systems: Utilize ERP/WMS/TMS systems for logistics planning, execution, and reporting.
  2. KPI Tracking: Track KPIs such as on-time delivery, transportation costs, inventory accuracy, and warehouse efficiency.
  3. MIS Reports: Prepare regular MIS reports for management review.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Supply Chain Knowledge: Strong knowledge of supply chain management, transportation, and warehousing best practices.
  • Negotiation Skills: Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Leadership Skills: Leadership and team management skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP, WMS, and MS Office applications.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Education & Experience:

  • Candidate Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • Experience Requirements: 10 + years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or operations management.
  • Preferred Industry Experience: Experience in medical devices, pharma industry will be preferred.
  • Proven Track Record: Proven track record in managing large-scale logistics operations and teams.
